On June 16, 1996, Westfalenhallen, the biggest meeting hall of Europe, was the scene of the largest gathering ever of Iranians outside Iran (prior to the June 21, 1996 meeting in London). The event commemorated June 20, 1981, the start of the just Resistance against the mullahs' rule and the Day of Martyrs and Political Prisoners.
Some 15,000 Iranians, as the media reported, came to Dortmund to express their support for the Iranian Resistance and the President-elect Mrs. Maryam Rajavi for the transitional period.
In additions to Iranians, scores of international political and cultural dignitaries from 10 countries, including a number of parliamentarians from the United States, Germany, Great Britain, Italy and Jordan attended the meeting.
