Massoud Rajavi Call for Boycott of Mullahs' Majlis Elections

In a message on the upcoming elections of the mullahs' Majlis in March, Mr. Massoud Rajavi, President of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, expressed his conviction that this time, too, the election farce will meet the Iranian nation's full-fledged boycott. Any form of assistance to this anti-patriotic theatrics and taking part in the electoral race is against the best interests of the Iranian people, directly serving to prolong the reign of suppression, torture and executions, he asserted.

The NCR president noted: Majlis elections are being held this year in circumstances which Rafsanjani has nothing to offer but total political and economic bankruptcy, and international isolation and rejection. The regime's leader, Khamenei, also faces increasing opposition in the seminaries and from the clergy not in the government. Recently, mullah Azari Qomi, a former proponent, vehemently criticized the regime's administration of the country and declared that he refuses to accept Khamenei's religious authority.

In such circumstances, the elections are used only for settling accounts among the government factions. The ruling majority has legalized the absolute supervision of the Council of Guardians over the elections, authorizing it to reject the eligibility of any candidate at any stage. Numerous appointments and dismissals in the Ministry of Interior have also raised continuous protest by other factions. These measures are considered as the ruling majority's attempts to get rid of rival factions, Mr. Rajavi said.

The NCR President also added that the regime has usurped the most fundamental right of the Iranian nation, namely their right to national sovereignty. This, and the numerous crimes of the mullahs which have resulted in 36 U.N. condemnations, prove that this regime is totally illegitimate and not capable of reform, hated and detested by all Iranians. Today, after 16 years of the mullahs' rule, no doubt remains as to the need for the overthrow of this regime and transfer of sovereignty to the people of Iran through the formation of the a National Constituent and Legislative Assembly.

Mr. Rajavi pointed out that despite the regime's suppression Iranians had already demonstrated their tremendous support for the Resistance's President-elect, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, in their numerous actions held throughout the country and in unprecedented gatherings abroad. This indicates, the NCR President said, that the greater majority of the Iranian people support the democratic alternative of the National Council of Resistance and its President-elect.

Mr. Rajavi stressed: If the mullahs' religious terrorist dictatorship denies this truth, it should hold free elections for the Constituent Assembly with the necessary guarantees under the supervision of the United Nations. But since in such a test, the mullahs would be certainly defeated by the Iranian Resistance, the establishment of democracy and national sovereignty will only be realized by the overthrow of the regime at the hands of the Iranian people and the Resistance.
