Mr. Rajavi expressed the hope that the conference would take effective steps in uprooting this ominous and anti-human phenomenon by adopting a firm and practical policy against the religious, terrorist dictatorship ruling Iran - the fountainhead of international terrorism.
If not based on a precise and realistic knowledge of the clerical regime's nature, any decision or policy vis-a-vis the regime and its terrorist crimes will inevitably prove futile and serve that mullahs' interests, the NCR President stressed.
Recalling that the Khomeini regime is based on religious fascism (Velayat-e Faqih), totalitarianism and medieval rule and the abuse of Islam, Mr. Rajavi reiterated that interference in other countries' internal affairs and export of fundamentalism and chaos via its affiliated terrorist groups and networks constitute the mullahs' long standing policies. In so doing, the regime is trying to expand its sphere of influence by establishing proxy "Islamic states" in the region and in the Islamic world so as to find a strategic guarantee for its survival.
One of the most consistent and publicly stated objectives of the regime, is the "annihilation of Israel" as "the cancerous tumor in the region." Regardless of whatever maneuvering or tactical retreat, the mullahs will never forgo this motto and objective, he added.
Mr. Rajavi said: The export of fundamentalism and terrorism is an inherent and indispensable characteristic of this regime. Any notion of reformation, moderation or transformation of the clerical regime is purely a mirage. Vested economic interests aside, this bogus premise has served as the political and theoretical justification of such conciliating and placating policies as "transforming the regime through economic ties," or "critical dialogue," which in practice have utterly failed.
One of the most striking examples of the failure of the policy of "critical dialogue," the NCR President noted, is the regime's frequent maneuvers concerning the criminal fatwa to murder Salman Rushdie. In the last seven years, only the Khomeini regime has benefited from dialogue and bargaining on this issue. Unfortunately, while the regime's leaders continue to insist on this fatwa and the need to implement it, European countries still pin their hopes on the regime's oral promises and give it a free rein in this respect.
Mr. Rajavi said: Rafsanjani's remarks in a press conference broadcast yesterday by an American television network, displayed the mullahs' most recent propaganda maneuver. In this encounter, he described the regime's support for terrorism and terrorists as "defending the Palestinian cause." Although he refrained from condemning the recent bombings in Israel and their perpetrators, Rafsanjani claimed that he opposes violence.
Referring to the Khomeini regime's execution of at least 100,000 political prisoners and nearly 200 terrorist assaults against foreign nationals, Iranian dissidents and the Resistance's activists, mostly in Europe, with the help of the regime's embassies and diplomats, he emphasized: So long as the Khomeini regime remains, terrorism, fundamentalism and turmoil in the region and in vast areas of the world will persist. Peace and stability will only come with the overthrow of this regime and the establishment of freedom and democracy in Iran.
Doubtless, the world community's decisiveness vis-a-vis this regime will expedite the establishment of democracy in Iran, peace and stability in the region and rid the people of the world of the perils of terrorism, he stated.
The NCR President called on the heads of states to bring to an end any appeasement of the mullahs' religious, terrorist dictatorship, particularly the policy of critical dialogue, and adopt firm and binding decisions, specifically trade sanctions against this regime.
