Passed by 24 affirmative votes and 7 negative votes, the resolution is the United Nations' 37th condemnation of the Khomeini regime.
Mr. Massoud Rajavi, President of the National Council of Resistance, said: Although the resolution addresses only a glimpse of the mullahs' horrific crimes, it again demonstrates that suppression and terrorism are indispensable to this illegitimate theocracy which is incapable of reform.
Congratulating the people of Iran over the adoption of this resolution, Mr. Rajavi added: During the session, the clerical regime employed different schemes and dispatched herds of its diplomat-terrorists to Geneva, trying its utmost, through collusion with some of its international interlocutors, to thwart the adoption of the resolution or weaken its content.
The NCR President extended his gratitude to those countries which persevered in the face of conspiracies by the regime and its allies, rejected any concessions to the medieval dictatorship and underscored the need to uphold unalienable human rights principles.
Adopted on the sixth anniversary of the assassination on April 24, 1990 of Professor Kazem Rajavi, the relentless advocate of human rights in Iran and the NCR representative in Switzerland, by terrorists dispatched from Tehran, the resolution deplores the assassination of Iranian dissidents abroad. It states deep concern over the violations of the most rudimentary rights of the Iranian people, including continuing executions, torture, inhuman punishments, discrimination against religious minorities, lack of the right to peaceful assembly, and restrictions on the freedom of expression, thought, opinion and the press. The resolution also condemns the denial to equal rights for women and calls upon the clerical regime to undertake appropriate measures to eliminate discrimination against women.
Mr. Rajavi said: The mullahs top the list of human rights abusers the worldover and have emerged as the primary threat to regional peace and tranquillity. Thus, the international community must go beyond passing resolutions of condemnation and refer the issue of human rights violations in Iran to the UN Security Council for making practical decisions such as trade sanctions.
The NCR President urged the European countries to stop making concessions to the medieval tyranny on the pretext of critical dialogue. He called upon them to refrain from economic dealings with the mullahs and thereby prevent them from utilizing Iran's national wealth for suppressing the people and exporting turmoil and chaos to the region and the world.
Mr. Rajavi lauded the endeavors of the Resistance's delegation at the session for their important role in the adoption of the resolution and in neutralizing the regime's schemes.
