Students strike at Tabriz University enters sixth day, 130 arrested
Regime publicly hangs nine to terrorize the public

Tabriz University students have staged strikes and demonstrations since Friday, May 11, to protest the Khomeini regime's suppressive policies, reports from Iran say. The atmosphere on campus is extremely tense.

At least 130 students were arrested and a large number wounded in the attacks launched by agents of the Intelligence Ministry and the revolutionary guards in the past days.

To curb the spread of protest to other parts of the city and terrorize the public, the mullahs' regime ordered public hanging of nine people.

Thousands of students staged a demonstration, lasting several hours, on Friday, May 11, on Tabriz University campus and clashed with agents of the Intelligence Ministry and the revolutionary guards. The protest was suppressed after more than 50 students were arrested.

On Saturday, the students staged another demonstration in the city's Sa'at Square and chanted slogans against Khamene'i and Rafsanjani. The protest met the onslaught of the Guards Corps anti-riot units where a large number of students were wounded and another 60 arrested.

Demonstrations and unrest have continued at Tabriz University. In the clashes on Sunday and Tuesday between the students and a special security unit, some 20 students were arrested.

Despite ruthless clampdown, the mullahs' regime has so far been unable to curb the students' protests. Fearing the spread of unrest to the city, the regime hanged nine people from construction cranes , at two different locations of the city, at 8 o'clock yesterday morning. Five were hanged at Serah Avenue and four in the bazaar across from the Shams Tabrizi shopping center, two of the busiest districts in Tabriz. The bodies of the victims remained hanging from the cranes for several hours to create an atmosphere of terror.
