Democratic Islam: Answer to Islamic Fundamentalism

Members of the Iranian Resistance's delegation in Beijing have met with abundant support by women from all over the world. In the final days of the NGO Forum, their presence and activities were prominent and conspicuous.

Some of the world's top media interviewed the Iranian Resistance delegates to prepare articles on the status of women in Iran, in the Iranian Resistance, the Resistance's plans for women, and about the issue of fundamentalism and women's rights in Islam.

FWCW observers have welcomed the documents and arguments of the Resistance's delegation and believe that the Iranian Resistance has noteworthy discourses including on women's rights in Islam and the mullahs' crimes against women under the guise of the religion.

Islamic fundamentalism is a phenomenon created by the Khomeini regime after the fall of the shah, to strengthen their absolute religious dictatorship in Iran, which is based on the oppression of women.

The National Council of Resistance of Iran, a 14-year coalition of democratic Iranian opposition forces, ratified a plan on the rights and freedoms of women, with special emphasis on the complete equality of women and men. In 1993, the council formed its Committee on the Rights and Freedoms of Women. The NCR's 25 committees form the bases of the future provisional government (for the six -month transitional period) after the overthrow of the mullahs.

Half of the members of the National Council of Resistance, the Iranian Resistance's Parliament in exile, are women. The Iranian Resistance's elected President, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, is a 25-year veteran of struggle against two dictatorships of the shah and Khomeini. A modus operandi devoid of prejudice and discrimination against women to attract and deploy more women in all levels of the struggle against the medieval mullahs' regime is her brainchild.

The Iranian Resistance advocates equality and freedom for women, including the right to occupy any governmental or public post, particularly judgeship, the right to elect and be elected in all referendums including the right to be elected as President, and the freedom to choose one's clothing.

On the eve of the Beijing conference, the NCR Foreign Affairs Committee published a book, "Women, Islam and Equality" , dedicating it to "all the oppressed women of the world, particularly those in Islamic countries."
