Mr. Rajavi condemns Mandela's receiving of Rafsanjani

Mr. Massoud Rajavi, President of the National Council of Resistance, condemned the visit to South Africa by Hashemi Rafsanjani, President of the religious, terrorist dictatorship ruling Iran, and the reception given to him by the South African President, Mr. Nelson Mandela. He described them as running counter to the highest interests of the Iranian people.

Mr. Rajavi described comments by the South African President that human rights have improved in Iran as most shocking and inaccurate. He added: Overlooking the deteriorating human rights situation of 70 million Iranians, in order to receive oil and petty economic concessions, by Mr. Mandela, who personally suffered from imprisonment and torture and witnessed the slaughter of his fellow comrade-in-arms for many years, is beyond expectation.

The NCR President stressed: These comments are made as the mullahs' anti-human regime, fearful of the spread of the just and popular resistance, has dramatically increased public mass executions in a bid to instill an atmosphere of intimidation and terror among the citizens.

Iran's criminal rulers have so far been condemned 38 times for flagrantly violating human rights by the various organs of the United Nations, the latest being the August 1996 strongly-worded resolution by the UN Sub-Commission of Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities. In the first eight months of 1996, the regime's terrorists have assassinated 13 Iranian dissidents abroad.

Condemning the scheduled trip to Iran by the Head of South Africa's Human Rights Commission, Mr. Rajavi recalled that while the UN Human Rights Commission is monitoring the situation of human rights in Iran, possible reports or assessments that may come out of this trip are worthless.
