Iranian Resistance calls for cancellation of Italian parliamentary speaker's visit to Tehran

The National Council of Resistance of Iran calls for the cancellation of the visit to Tehran by the Speaker of the Italian Parliament and considers it contrary to the highest interests of the people of Iran. Experience has shown that Iran's ruling theocracy takes advantage of such visits to justify its blatant violations of human rights and export of terrorism.

The majority of deputies at the Italian Parliament signed on a declaration last summer in which they condemned the repressive and terrorist policies of Iran's clerical regime. They called on the government of Italy to adopt a firm policy towards the mullahs and declared their support for the Iranian Resistance and its President-elect, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi.

According to a document released last week by the Court of Berlin, "the President, the head of the Secret Service (VEVAK), the Foreign Minister, and also the head of the Security Service and other organizations" and finally "the Leader of the Revolution" as "the highest political authority" approve the "mission for murder" of the regime's opponents abroad.

Shaking hands with the officials of such a murderous regime will not help improve the situation of human rights in Iran or halt the export of terrorism.

At least seven people have been stoned to death after the EU foreign ministers' meeting in April in Luxembourg and since Khatami took office. The number of executions publicly announced in 1997 exceeds 200. The regime has announced the executions of at least 20 persons since the beginning of 1998.
