Khamenei's comments are a direct reference to the April 18 remarks by the Iranian Resistance's leader, Mr. Massoud Rajavi, in a gathering of the National Liberation Army combatants at one of the army's bases. Mr. Rajavi had declared: "The phase for the overthrow of the mullahs' regime and the need to prepare for it had arrived."
Khamenei was speaking as the biggest political crisis engulfing the religious, terrorist dictatorship ruling Iran since Khomeini's death, has shaken the foundations of the regime and caused tremendous anxiety among the mullahs' leaders about their future. Several days ago, the mullahs' president, Mohammad Khatami, warned that the Mojahedin were the biggest threat to the regime's existence.
Reports from Iran say that Mr. Rajavi's remarks, broadcast nationwide by the Resistance's radio and television network, has caused enormous concern among the regime's suppressive agents and operatives and alarmed them about the prospects for the regime's overthrow.
In his address, Mr. Rajavi had stressed that joining and supporting the National Liberation Army is an urgent nationalist and patriotic duty, adding that the escalation of acts of protest among various sectors of the Iranian society will prepare the grounds for the ever-expeditious overthrow of the clerical regime.
Khamenei's comments today reaffirm the fact that despite his appeals and those of Hashemi Rafsanjani, Khatami, Majlis speaker Ali-Akbar Nateq-Nouri, and other officials last week for the need to maintain unity, and their warnings about the threat posed to the regime in its totality from the other side of the borders, the irreversible trend of crisis, disorder and disintegration has engulfed this medieval regime, pushing it closer to inevitable downfall.
