Such an invitation is doomed to failure, particularly in light of the victorious campaign by Iranians during Khatami's visit to Italy, the suspension of Khatami's trip to France and the opposition expressed by European and American lawmakers with such trips. It only arouses the outrage and repugnance of the Iranian people in and out of the country, for they demand the overthrow of this regime.
While international human rights bodies and authorities, such as the Special Representative of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights have reported about the continuing human rights abuses, high number of executions, torture, lack of due process of law, the violations of the most rudimentary rights of Iranian women, as well as discrimination against women and ethnic and religious minorities, unfair trials and a wave of suspicious political killings, such contacts only embolden this medieval regime to continue its suppressive policies.
