"We solve all the communications problems of the combatants," explains the young woman in charge of the laboratory. My accompanying officer adds that the high quality wireless communications between the NLA brigades and the General Command played a significant role in the NLA's first major spring offensive ("Shining Sun") against Khomeini's 77th division in March, west of the city of Shush.
Evidence of the orderly routine of the base is everywhere, but it is nowhere more conspicuous than in the kitchen. Even the large pots are so neatly arranged on the stoves that they, too, look like they are in parade formation! Everything is in its proper place, and despite the work involved in feeding the large number of combatants, there is no chaos or confusion in the kitchen.
In an adjacent room, a number of combatants work over large tables preparing the rice, vegetables and meat for the cooks. Plastic buckets - the same size, same color, each tagged with a yellow sticker - hold the ingredients. Engrossed in their work, the combatants listen to an old Iranian song on a tape-recorder in the corner.
