Resistance activities
Mojahedin Command Headquarters inside Iran, Oct. 26 - On the occasion of the Iranian traditional celebrations of Mehregan and the anniversary of the presidency of Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, Iranian students held activities in cities across Iran, including Tehran, Shiraz, Isfahan, Yazd, Abadan, Tabriz, Ardebil, Rasht, Gorgan, Kermanshah, Ilam, Qazvin, Mashhad, Orumieh, Boushehr, and Zanjan. They wrote slogans on the walls, distributed leaflets, posted placards and used other means to inform the public and expose the regime's policies. One of the leaflets distributed read in part: Let us turn the schools into a resistance front against the clerical regime.
Medieval punishments
AFP, Oct. 25 - The daily Jomhouri Islami announced that the right hands of two thieves who were repeated offenders was cut according to the Islamic punishment laws. The daily did not mention any dates, but said Jafar Afzali and Jafar Pendarian, were convicted of several thefts in Ahwaz and Shoush in southwestern Iran. The Islamic cannon says 27 reasons are needed before an Islamic judge can order the cutting of fingers.
Presidential elections
Salam, Oct. 26 - The organization of the Mujahedeen of the Islamic Revolution announced that Mir Hossein Moussavi is the best candidate for the Iranian presidential elections. Secretary General of this organization said: The results of a poll taken in the capital indicates that the majority of those surveyed support Moussavi. A large number of students are planning to launch a major gathering in support of Moussavi in front of Tehran University on Tuesday.
Min. 36,000 students died in war
Tehran radio, Oct. 21 - The first nationwide memorial ceremonies to honor Martyr Fahmideh and 36,000 martyred Bassiji students begins today. Fahmideh was a 13-year-old member of the Bassij who tied a grenade to his waist and slid under the enemy's tank in the course of the invasion of Khorramshahr (southwestern Iran).
2.5 million students recruited
Tehran radio, Oct. 24 - Rafsanjani paid tribute to the valuable role of the Bassij during the [Iran-Iraq war] and said that the student Bassij is one of the most extensive sectors of the society. Afshar, commander of the Bassij Resistance forces said that 2,500,000 Bassiji students are presently organized in 21,500 bases and schools across the country.
National census
Voice of Mojahed, Oct. 26 - The Iranian people are hesitant about giving true answers to the questionnaires of the census bureau. They believe that the general census and the questionnaires are an attempt by the clerical regime to gather intelligence.
Public worries, turns to gold
Radio France International, Oct. 26 - Iran rated among the top ranking nations which minted gold coins last year. The weekly, Iran Times reported that Iranians are concerned about economic inflation and many save gold coins to preserve their wealth and the value of their earnings. This phenomenon has made Iran the second ranking among the nations which mint gold coins.
No more buying power
Kayhan, Oct. 23 - The Minister of Agriculture of the Islamic regime said: The prices will gradually rise to a level where even those considered rich will not have any buying power. Kalantari added: Compared with the average income, prices have reached their highest levels and the average wage earners already do not afford to buy the agricultural products.
Salam, Oct. 21 - The director general [of a domestic producer company] said the local industry faces serious problems. He emphasized that the price of the raw materials needed by factories had risen 50% in recent months. The Minister of Economy, Mohammad Khan, pointed out the remarkable drop in the Iranian people's buying power and the contradiction between the government's announced policies of abolishing poverty and the existing realities in the society. Mohammad Khan added: The price of many products in the country are the world's highest.
Fishing of Kaviar drops
Pejvak radio, Sweden, Oct. 25 - Large volume of pollutants in the Caspian Sea has cut the fishing of Kaviars from 200 tons in 1984-85 to 150 tons at present.
Sara vs. Barbie
Radio France International, Oct. 21 - To counter the entry of Barbies from the West, the Iranian regime has decided to produce Islamic dolls. Made in Iran, the Islamic dolls, called Sara, come with chador and scarves.
Tehran vulnerable to earthquake
Pejvak radio, Sweden, Oct. 19 - Head of the department of seismology announced that half of the buildings in Tehran are vulnerable to destruction at 7 Richter scale. He said the chances for such an earthquake in Tehran is 70% in ten years from now.
US wrestling team won't go
AFP, Oct. 23 - The American team was officially invited by Iran to take part in the international wrestling tournaments to be held Nov. 7-8 in Tehran. The invitation, however, is mandatory. Aref Rabeti, secretary of the Iranian wrestling federation said should the United States not come to the tournaments, the Iranian Federation will take up "the necessary measures" with the International Wrestling Federation "against the United States."
Voice of America, Oct. 24 - VOA's Farsi service called the public relations of the American Wrestling Federation and found that the AWF Executive Committee had decided in its last meeting not to send any teams to the international wrestling tournaments in Tehran.

Toya's visit protested
AGI news agency, Italy, Oct. 22 - After three years, a member of the Italian government visits Tehran. Deputy Foreign Minister, Patricia Toya is visiting Iran and she will sign a protocol for mutual cultural cooperation in Tehran...
This visit by the Deputy Foreign Minister and her tomorrow's meeting with Velayati were protested by the Iranian Resistance. They issued a statement describing "shaking hands with the officials of a religious, terrorist dictatorship" as contrary to "the universal values of human rights."
The Resistance recalled how the Italian House of Representatives had obliged the Foreign Ministry in 1992 not to take any political, economic or trade measures which could be interpreted as indirect support for the Iranian regime.
Anti-Refugee pact condemned
NCR secretariat, Oct. 23 - According to Reuters, Ali Akbar Velayati announced an agreement with Turkey to prevent cross-border movements of opposition groups and that simultaneous operations had already begun against opposition groups in the border area. The National Council of Resistance of Iran condemns this accord and views it as a prelude to more criminal actions against Iranian refugees in Turkey. The NCR holds the government of Turkey responsible for the safety and security of the Iranian refugees residing in that country and considers the signing of such accord as a violation of the sacred right to asylum.
A mullah agent extradited
Radio France International, Oct. 24 - The German Justice officials today extradited to France Ahmad Jayhouni, accused of murdering Reza Mazlouman [in May at a Paris suburb].
New witness in Mykonos
AFP, Oct. 24 - A new Iranian witness was heard today at the Mykonos trial in Berlin. Tehran vehemently questions this court. The witness, 26, was a member of the Iranian secret services in Iran and had several times seen Kazem Darabi, the first row convict, at Tehran's airport in a place restricted to government officials. He said he had information about a fugitive also involved in the murders.
Satanic Verses not heretical
NRK national television, Oct. 22 - One of the most prominent critics of Iran, Ayatollah Jalal Ganje'i is visiting Norway. The Ayatollah told the news department: Salman Rushdie's book, The Satanic Verses, must not be viewed as heresy. I believe this book is out of question because it is not a historical or philosophical study, rather a novel full of fictions. And the author does not claim otherwise, either. As the chair of the Iranian Resistance's Committee for the freedom of religions, he delivered a speech on fundamentalism and the oppression of women. Mrs. Nina Karin Monsen said the Norwegian section of an international front against fundamentalism will soon be formed.
A new government for Iraq?
Voice of Iraqi Kurdistan, Oct. 25 - Documents have been seized which indicate that under Iran's supervision, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the Supreme Assembly of Iraqi Revolution had agreed to join together to form a government in Iraq. Both backed by Iran, only the PUK would be the sole party ruling Kurdistan and the Supreme Assembly, the sole power to rule over Iraq.
Export of terrorism to Egypt
Reuters, Oct. 21 - Egyptian authorities said they had arrested 56 members of a secret Shi'ite organisation allegedly trying to recruit followers to promote Iranian ideas in the country.
The Interior Ministry said in a statement the Egyptian Shi'ite Moslems were arrested in raids on five provinces across Egypt but did not say when the raids took place.
The ministry said the Shi'ite organisation had recruited people to send to Iran for training.
"The group also tried to infiltrate political parties and take advantage of them to spread Iranian goals and extremist plans," the ministry said.
Aid to Islamic Jihad
Weekly Al-Jordan, Oct. 21 - A high ranking envoy from the Iranian secret services met last week in Damascus with the leader of the Islamic Jihad and gave him one million dollars as the first payment of Iran's aid to this movement. The money will pay for the resumption of the activities of the movement against Israel. The leader of the Islamic Jihad immediately gave part of this sum to the leadership of the Islamic Jihad in the Gaza strip and vowed to send them the rest of it soon.
Meeting with Hezbollah
Al-Hayat, Jordanian weekly, Oct. 19 - Hassan Nassrallah, leader of the Hezbollah of Lebanon, headed the delegation of the party's "consultative assembly" on an unannounced visit to Tehran.
