Press Office of the People's Mojahedin of Iran - Paris December 22, 1995
At 3:45 am, the Ba'dizadegan base's sentry guards heard the sound of two consecutive machine-gun barrages and the explosion of hand grenades from the base's eastern flank. They were on the scene in three minutes. A blue Toyota land cruiser of the local irrigation department, license plate number 4335, carrying two passengers, had been hit by the grenades and machine-gun volleys. Apparently, the terrorists had mistakenly assumed it was a Mojahedin vehicle.
The driver was killed and the passenger, an engineer from the irrigation department, critically wounded and taken by the locals to a hospital. Next to the land cruiser, there were an Israeli 81mm Tampla mortar launcher, five mortar shells and a compass, aimed at the Mojahedin base and ready to fire. The insignia of the "Islamic Republic of Iran," and "81mm Tampla mortar, manufactured in 1991," were visible on the extra-propelled shells. On the warhead and detonators the name of the mullahs' regime's "Defense Industry Organization," was imprinted.
Two kilometers away, a Toyota Corona taxi, used by the assailants, with license plate number 102766-Baghdad had been abandoned. The body of the land cruiser's dead driver was in the rear trunk of the car. There were also 25 more mortar shells in the trunk. In the taxi itself, there were an assortment of weapons and equipment including an RPG-18 rocket launcher. Obviously, the terrorists, fearing the arrival of the Mojahedin, had killed and wounded innocent Iraqi nationals and had escaped, leaving behind all their weapons, equipment and the vehicle used for the operation.
It is worthy of note that on the basis of identical texts issued by the Khomeini regime's Intelligence Ministry and published in the state-controlled newspapers on April 10, 1994, including Kayhan and Salaam, the mullahs' SAVAK assumed that Mr. Massoud Rajavi, was staying at this base. The regime believed that the NCR President and the Commander-in-Chief of the National Liberation Army of Iran, and "his trusted aides were... using this hideout."
Mr. Rajavi described the failed attack by the mullahs' regime against the Ba'dizadegan base as another obvious testament to the despondency and feebleness of the religious, terrorist dictatorship ruling Iran vis-a-vis the sole patriotic and democratic alternative. He added: On the one hand, in their official propaganda, the mullahs deny the existence of the just and nationwide resistance of the Iranian people and our fellow compatriots' overwhelming enthusiasm for the Resistance's President-elect within and without Iran. On the other hand, while the 36th United Nations resolution condemning the terrorist crimes of this regime in and out of Iran was just adopted last week, the mullahs find it necessary to intensify terrorism and suppression and to resort to such foolish assaults.
The NCR President noted that this was the 37th terrorist attack against the Mojahedin on Iraqi soil in the last three years by the barbarous mullahs ruling Iran. It is also a blatant violation of the Security Council's resolution 598, he stressed.
Mr. Rajavi emphasized: We always reserve the right to self defense and reply with all our capabilities. The criminal mullahs and their mercenaries will doubtless pay for every single of their crimes and unsparing bloodshed. The Iranian Resistance's Leader reiterated that he holds the Khomeini regime's diplomat-terrorists in Baghdad, whose embassy's only task is to conspire and spy on the Mojahedin, responsible for this grave crime in a Baghdad suburb. Everyone is aware that the clerical regime is taking advantage of the Iraqi situation and international sanctions, waiting in the wings to devour this country and realize its fundamentalist designs there, he said.
In a telegram to the United Nations Secretary General and members of the Security Council, Mr. Rajavi stated that adopting resolutions condemning the crimes and human rights abuses by the religious, terrorist dictatorship ruling Iran were necessary, but insufficient. The consideration of the regime's record on terrorism, suppression and violations of international resolutions and laws must be immediately put on the agenda of the United Nations Security Council to initiate decisive measures, the NCR President emphasized.
