Mojahedin pound offices of Khamenei and Rafsanjani with mortars

The compound of Ali Khamenei, mullahs' Supreme Leader, (consisting of his residence and office) located in the Marble Palace)- belonging to the former shah - was hit with mortars at 7:30 pm local time by several groups of the Mojahedin. The large scale operation was code-named "Tehran uprising."

The sound of scores of explosions was heard by many people in large areas of the capital.

The protection of Khamenei's compound had been dramatically stepped up in recent weeks. The Mojahedin, however, enjoying the support of the local people and a number of employees, succeeded in entering the security-military zone which is protected by the Revolutionary Guards Corps' 10th Seyyed-ol Shohada division. In this way, all the mortars hit Khamenei's residence and office.

The office of Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, the former President and the head of the State Expediency Council, also located in the Marmar Palace was also hit with mortars by the operational units of the People's Mojahedin.

The large-scale operation, "Tehran uprising," was carried out using the weaponry and ammunition confiscated from the clerical regime. It was conducted to commemorate the July uprising by Tehran residents and students which was crushed brutally on the orders of Khamenei and Khatami.
