Clerical regime's missile attack on Camp Anzali foiled

The patrol units of the National Liberation Army's Camp Anzali, near the town of Jalawla (40 km from Iran-Iraq border) foiled an attempted missile attack on the camp by the clerical regime's terrorists on Sunday morning, February 6.

Minutes before the missiles fired, Camp Anzali's patrol units learned of the existence of suspicious objects in this area and quickly rushed to the site. The missiles had been planted near Boheizeh village, 2.5 km from Camp Anzali. It was subsequently discovered that six 107-mm missiles equipped with electronic timers, had been aimed at Camp Anzali and ready to fire. The clerical regime's mercenaries had also planted a bomb trap, with 20 kg of explosives, near the site of the missiles. It had been planned that the trap blows up minutes after the missiles fire and when Camp Anzali's patrol units arrive.

Fortunately, thanks to the speed and vigilance of the Mojahedin patrol guards, the missiles and the booby bomb trap were disabled before they could act.

This was the 84th terrorist attack by the clerical regime against the Iranian Resistance on the Iraqi territory since 1993. Thirty-three of these operations have taken place during Khatami's tenure.

NLA's Camp Anzali has been bombed twice by the mullahs' Air Force on September 29, 1997, and on May 25, 1993. The clerical regime's fighter bombers dropped 500- and 1000-pound bombs on the camp.

Less than two weeks before the mullahs' sham Majlis elections, which has aggravated the regime's internal crises more than ever, the clerics are unable to confront the escalating wave of popular uprisings and activities and a rise in Mojahedin operations inside Iran. They thus find the only solution to this situation in stepping up terrorist operations and activities.

The People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran once again underlines its unalienable right to defend itself. The PMOI urges the UN Secretary General and the Security Council to condemn the unbridled terrorism practiced by Iran's ruling theocracy and calls on them to adopt practical decisions against this regime.
