Operation Tehran Uprising - Statement No. 5
Clerical regime acknowledges mortars fell just 20 meters from Rafsanjani
"Mortar strikes ... raise alarm for national security"

The state-run daily Ressalat wrote on Sunday: "An informed source told our correspondent about the explosion of several mortars in the vicinity of the State Exigency Council. He said: 'When these explosions took place, Mr. Hashemi Rafsanjani was present at his office and one of the mortars exploded just 20 meters away from.' "

Another state-run daily, Entekhab, wrote on Sunday: "The recent incident in Tehran and the fact that several mortars hit the vicinity of the headquarters of the State Exigency Council, which lodges the majority of the officials of this country in itself, raise alarm for national security."

The clerical regime has acknowledged mortar strikes several meters from Rafsanjani's office, in an area which lodges "the majority of the officials of the country", while the mullahs' Ministry of Intelligence had previously claimed on dozens of instances that the Mojahedin have launched "indiscriminate explosions" in the streets. These acknowledgments also show that the clerical regime's claims about wounding of ordinary citizens in this operation are utterly false. Every one knows that no "ordinary citizen" has access to this most highly protected compound in Iran.
