Iran: Anti-government campaign in 181 cities by Resistance forces

Resistance forces embarked on an extensive anti-government campaign in 181 cities across Iran to honor the anniversary of June 20, the day the nationwide Resistance against the mullahs' regime began, according to the Mojahedin Command Headquarters inside Iran.

The nation-wide activities, which included organizing protests and a variety of political and publicity activities in public places, schools, universities, factories and government offices, showed a three-fold rise compared with a similar campaign last year.

A sit-in protest and strike by workers at Isfahan's Steel Mills, a demonstration by workers at Roukesh Pelastic company in Tehran, a strike by university professors and the academic staff at Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, a protest demonstration by students in the northern city of Rasht, a demonstration in the southern city of Kerman's Azadi Square in protest against arbitrary arrests by Revolutionary Guards, a protest gathering by carpet dealers in Tehran's Bazaar, anti-government demonstrations by residents of Zanjan in the north-west were among a long list of popular protests, strikes and demonstrations listed by the Mojahedin Command.

In addition, there have been several clashes between the Revolutionary Guards and Resistance forces including a clash in northern Tehran, another one in Tehran's Shemiran-No district and a clash in Garmeh and Jajarom districts of Bojnourd in northeastern Iran.

In these clashes, the Revolutionary Guards invariably reacted by setting up road blocks and cutting off large areas of the city to search passers by. Additional reinforcements were sent to the scene of the clashes and hundreds of people were arrested. A number of Revolutionary Guards were wounded in these confrontations. In Garmeh and Jajarom, infuriated crowds detained several local officials for some time in response to the Guards' attack.

Hundreds of placards in support of the Resistance and its President-elect Maryam Rajavi were put on display in the busy districts of different cities including Tehran, Ardebil, Isfahan, Shiraz, Ahwaz, Tabriz, Zanjan, Iranshahr, Shoush, etc. Hundreds of thousands of leaflets and video and audio cassettes were also distributed by Resistance forces.

The government placed all security forces throughout Iran on full alert to counter the Resistance's campaign. Revolutionary Guards patrolled the cities round the clock and plainclothes agents were posted in different districts to control the situation.

In the western provinces, the mullahs' regime conducted air patrols to increase surveillance of the border areas. The government canceled all leaves for security forces and placed them on alert throughout the month of June.

The government instructed provincial governors and commanders of the State Security Forces to hold daily meetings to control the situation in the cities and in the border areas. Top military commanders also held a special five-day seminar to review border security.
