Mullahs' rocket attack on NLA base camp failed

At 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 29, terrorists of the mullahs' regime launched ten 107mm mini-Katyusha rockets on a base camp of the National Liberation Army located southeast of Kut (50 kms from the Iranian border). The assailants had crossed the Iran-Iraq border to carry out their attack on the base camp which is located in the no fly zone in southern Iraq, near the 32 parallel.

The NLA security patrols rapidly arrived at the site of the attack and the assailants fled. None of the rockets hit the target and landed in the surrounding fields and residential areas.

The rockets were similar to the ones used in the August 5, 1996, attack on one of the Mojahedin base camps west of Baghdad. This was the 47th terrorist operation of the mullahs' regime since 1993 against the Iranian Resistance on Iraqi soil.

Mr. Massoud Rajavi, President of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, described this abortive rocket attack as an attempt by a regime desperate in confronting the recent advancements of the Resistance in Iran and abroad, particularly its nationwide campaign in recent weeks in 181 Iranian cities.

Mr. Rajavi sent a telegram to the Secretary General of the United Nations and members of the U.N. Security Council, urging condemnation of this terrorist crime. He emphasized that the continuation of these terrorist operations and violation of international laws by Iran's ruling mullahs is a consequence of the silence and inaction of the international community towards this regime.

The NCR President urged the Government of Iraq to pursue, prosecute and punish the mullahs' terrorists and close their embassy in Baghdad which is involved in terrorist operations and espionage against the Mojahedin and the Iranian Resistance.
