The Mojahedin dealt heavy blows to the regime in the first seven months of 1997, in 294 operations in Tehran and other parts of Iran including the provinces of Isfahan, Fars, Khorassan, Sistan and Baluchistan, Mazandaran, Ilam, Kermanshah and Khuzistan. In clashes between the Mojahedin and the regime's suppressive forces, hundreds of Revolutionary Guards and Intelligence Ministry agents were killed or wounded.
According to the report of the Mojahedin's Command Headquarters inside Iran, contrary to the regime's false claims that Mr. Shekarbaygi had "surrendered to the security forces in recent days," he had in fact been arrested three months ago by the Ministry of Intelligence and savagely tortured.
The Intelligence Ministry's repeating of such lies as "repression in the Mojahedin" or the imprisonment of "disaffected individuals," only reflects the regime's increasing fear of the wave of youths who have continued to join the National Liberation Army of Iran, particularly this year.
In recent months, in reaction to extensive public enthusiasm towards the Mojahedin and the Iranian Resistance, the clerical regime has arrested many groups of youths and former political prisoners.
The People's Mojahedin of Iran draw the attention of international human rights organizations to the flagrant violations of human rights and widespread arrests in recent months. Many of these prisoners are under tremendous pressure to take part in television interviews.
