Mojahedin strongly condemn assassination of Iranian cleric in Najaf (Iraq)

Ayatollah Agha Mirza Ali Gharavi, an Iranian religious figure residing in Najaf, Iraq, was killed in a terrorist attack last Thursday on his way from Karbala to Najaf. Ayatollah Gharavi is the second cleric to be murdered in a similar fashion in southern Iraq since April, news reports noted.

A Mojahedin press spokesman said: The PeopleÕs Mojahedin Organization of Iran strongly condemns the assassination of Ayatollah Agha Mirza Ali Gharavi and calls for urgent follow-up of this cowardly murder, the arrest and punishment of the terrorists by the Iraqi officials and relevant agencies.

The spokesman added: Iranian clerics who do not collaborate with the mullahsÕ regime in Iran and abroad (especially in Mashad, Qom and Najaf seminaries) persistently have to endure pressures and restrictions by the Tehran regime.
