Mohammad Khatami, the mullahs' President, admitted to the regime's instability in a speech carried by state television, and referring to the Mojahedin, he said: "With their latest act of despair, they want to show others that the Islamic Republic of Iran will not be able to achieve stability. For this reason, we have to approach this with seriousness so that we can go through this period of achieving stability in the right way."
Dorri Najafabadi, the Intelligence Minister, acknowledged in an interview last night on the state television that the regime was unable to confront the growing activities of the Resistance across the country. In order to boost the morale of the clerics' terrified forces, he said: "Since the Islamic Conference summit (last December), Intelligence Ministry agents, the Armed Forces, the State Security Forces have indeed sent many members of the Mojahedin to hell, especially at the border areas. In all these years, such major steps have been unprecedented. Good work has been carried out at the borders, especially inside the country." Najafabadi acknowledged "the lack of security" and added: "Without security, there are no grounds for development in any society or state."
In remarks published in the state controlled daily, Kayhan, on August 24, Habibollah Asgarouladi, one of the leaders of Khamenei's faction, acknowledged the instability of the regime and said: "By this operation, simultaneous with the visit by the French Foreign Minister to Tehran and the start of the Week of Government, the Mojahedin wanted to purport that we have no security."
