Statement No. 3
- Experts describe yesterday's terrorist bombing similar to car bomb attack in west Baghdad last March, where 4 Iraqi citizens were mutilated

Experts said the methods and technique used in the car bomb attack yesterday in northeast Baghdad was similar to the terrorist crime carried out March 18 in west Baghdad, in which four innocent Iraqi civilians were killed. The clerical regime claimed responsibility for the attack at the time through its news agency (PMOI statement, April 6, 1999)

Six members of the Mojahedin were killed and 21 other wounded in the terrorist attack yesterday in Baghdad.

Blind explosions in public places and massacre of innocent civilians is a dastardly method of the Iranian clerical regime's Intelligence Ministry and Guards Corps. They deploy Iraqi mercenaries of the 9th Badr Division commanded by the revolutionary Guards Corps.

Yesterday's explosion of the car bomb in northeast Baghdad created palls of smoke filling the air for minutes after the eruption. In addition to members of the Mojahedin, a number of innocent Iraqi civilians were killed and dozens wounded, with heavy damages being inflicted on the passing cars and nearby residential units.

The government of Iraq "strongly condemned this criminal and atrocious act of terrorism" last night. The Iraqi government expressed dismay and declared "Iran's ruling regime responsible for this crime launched by the regime's terrorists."

The People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran draws the attention of the UN Secretary General and Security Council, as well as relevant authorities and organizations defending human rights, to condemn and take immediate action to confront the mullahs' unbridled, savage acts of terrorism and continuous explosion of car bombs in public places leading to the deaths of innocent civilians. The PMOI also reserves its own right to respond and its legitimate right to defend its combatants against the attacks of the clerical regime.
